Silvercore Club Members Now Save 10% at IBI Precision

Here is the short version. IBI Precision, the Chilliwack, BC company formerly known as International Barrels, now gives Silvercore Club members 10% off. A Club membership is $59 per year. On a single match-grade barrel, the discount covers the membership with room to spare, and you keep every other member benefit for the rest of the year.

Who is IBI Precision?

If you have been around Canadian precision shooting for any length of time, you know them as International Barrels Inc., or just IBI. The company rebranded as IBI Precision Systems, and the name change reflects what they have become: a manufacturer of match-grade barrels, bolt-action rifle actions, and muzzle brakes, along with a growing line of shooting accessories. The Deuce 2.0, their full-size 700-footprint 22LR action, is a good example of how far past barrel blanks they have moved. Same shop, same people, same address in Chilliwack.

I recorded a podcast with their technical director, Ryan Steacy, back when the company was two years old. The episode title came from something Ryan said that stuck with me: "We're not building barrels in our basement." They had millions of dollars of equipment on the floor even then, and every person chambering, running the rifling buttons, or running the hone was a shooter. Barrels that do not make the cut get pulled and never ship. That was the standard in the early days, and their results since have backed it up.

The process is worth understanding if you are spending real money on a barrel. IBI starts with 416R stainless steel and runs a double stress-relieving process: the steel goes into the oven after cutting, through a heat-up and cool-down cycle that takes days, then back into the oven again after rifling. That second cycle deals with the stresses induced by button rifling, which is a step a lot of makers skip. Bores are honed and hand-lapped, and chambers are cut in-house rather than farmed out.

Ryan Steacy knows what a barrel has to do

Ryan is not a salesman who learned to shoot. He has been a competitive service rifle and precision rifle shooter since 1994, shot for the Canadian Forces competitively for 23 years, and is one of only seven people inducted into the DCRA service rifle conditions hall of fame. He has won six DCRA national service rifle championships, several of them shot on IBI barrels he tested himself.

That last part matters. When IBI was proving out their first barrels, Ryan did the testing with factory ammunition off a bipod and rear bag, not strapped into a machine rest, because he wanted results a customer could actually reproduce. He told me he would not have put an IBI barrel on his own competition rifle if he did not believe it could keep up with the barrel he had already won three straight national titles with. Then he won with it.

Hear it from Ryan directly

Ryan has been on the Silvercore Podcast several times over the years. If you want to go deeper before you buy, start here:

He has come back on the show several times since to talk barrel technology, competition results, and the state of the Canadian firearms industry, including a round table with Daniel Fritter of Calibre Magazine.

The math on the membership

A Silvercore Club membership is $59 CAD per year. Take 10% off a match-grade barrel, an action, or a barreled build, and you are ahead on the first purchase. The discount applies across their lineup, so muzzle brakes and accessories stack the savings further. Everything else the Club includes is on top of that:

  • Membership in an RCMP-approved shooting club, satisfying the club membership requirement for restricted firearms in Canada
  • $5 million in third-party liability insurance through Lloyd's
  • Member pricing with partners like Armament Technology (Tangent Theta, SAI Optics, Tenebraex), Nanuk, Marathon Watch, and FortKnight Optics
  • The Outpost, our members-only podcast
  • 100% off Silvercore online courses and 10% off branded merchandise

How to claim the IBI Precision discount

  1. Join the Silvercore Club if you are not already a member. It takes a couple of minutes.
